Fire!!!!

by blondtwin Email

I've mentioned the wind.

And the fact that I'm in a tent.

Well, the two combined create problems.  We have three metal beams with lights strung up on them holding the tent up.  Across those beams lays the electrical cord for the power plugs.  With the cord chafing across the beams in the high winds, it started sparking wildly.

A couple of the girls were on my end of the tent (without the exit) and were wondering how they were going to get out.  Since the other exit was velcro sealed behind my bunk, I started tearing open the velcro, ushering girls through the door, over my bunk.

We went to the housing office for help and the woman there said she didn't know what to do.  Really?  How about call the Fire Department?  How about an electrician?  Grr.  How about you stop flirting with that guy and do your fricking job?

She finally stirred herself to help so we're stuck outside in this wind, at 10:40 at night, waiting for them to fix the issues with our electricity.  With nowhere else to go.

Sometimes, Afghanistan really sucks.

**Note:  We're back in the tent at 11:10 pm.  Nobody wants to sleep because everything is shaking around and they're afraid of another electrical issue.  But, hey, at least we're back in our tent, right?

No, it's still going strong. All the girls from the tent are looking a little ragged today, including me.
