Red Tape

by blondtwin Email

It takes mountains of red tape to get anything done over here. Yeah, I know, it's the government way and they wouldn't have it any OTHER way, but, still...

Do you remember years and years ago, they justified the expense of those new-fangled things called computers and said that they would be going paperless?

Yeah.  That happened.

It seems like I fill out more paperwork now than ever before.

Here too. And worse yet...now if the computers are down, our hands are tied. We have no records at all.

You are so right! Just look at any fast food restaurants. Loose power, & no food gets sold.

Makes me wonder how we got any work done before PCs. Wait a minute, I think it's coming back to me...was that called "pen & paper"? :P

I actually think we have TWICE the work now. We have to do work on the computer AND on paper. And often, it's the same information both places.
Like when you make a service call on the phone. It's an automated system that asks for your account information and password, etc. But when (if) you ever get to a real, live person, they ask for all that information all over again. Is entering all that information on the phone just a delay tactic by the company to improve their call waiting metrics because the wait time doesn't actually start until you've gone through all that rigamarole? I think so. Yet, we're forced to give the same information over and over on the phone, the computer and on paper. Grrr.
