Of Convoys and Men...

Today was my first bit of convoying. I was nervous about it, but, the crew that was taking my coworker and me out to this other camp was very professional and I felt confident in their ability to protect me.  And themselves, of course.

The place we went was small, but, in some ways the facilities were way better than here at Phoenix.  The food was WAY better, that was certain.  My coworker said that the lead cook there has her family send a lot of the ingredients from home.  I have to say - tasty.

We needed to visit another compound which wasn't very far from where the one we were visiting was.  It's all within an Afghan Training Compound, so my coworker has always walked unmolested from one site to another.  Yeah.  Fridays are considered the day of rest over here.  Pretty much everyone was out and about and, at least it seemed that way to me, they were staring at me and my coworker.  Let's just say that, in the future when I need to visit, I'm either going to go accompanied by someone else, or I'm going to get a ride to the other camp.  I was pretty intimidated by all those eyes on me.

I did a quick sketch on my Bamboo when I got back.  This appears to be a pretty typical pose for the local men.

The caption could read, "a blonde haired female wandering around...hmmm haven't seen one of those in a while." You definitely might want to consider some other method of getting from one place to another.
